Introduction

There are many well equipped institutes in the whole Shekhawati region and the literacy rate in Shekhawati belt is 70.93% as compared to the state average of 66.11% as per census 2011. There is very positive outlook among local people to get good education for their children. Hence to further promote good educational practices. It was decided by the State Government to construct a Science Park at Nawalgarh. This work was entrusted to the Science and Technology Department, Govt. of Rajasthan.

Remodeling

The existing building lies at the eastern side of the whole site. Not much space is available around the building. The remaining land in strip form lies on the other side which has the park. Entry to the campus is at a central axis with gallery block on one side and the park on the other side so that people can move to their preferred section without disturbing the other areas.

Taking the concept of traditional architectural, the existing building i.e. the industrial shed was remodeled on Shekhawati style of architectural. For accomplishing this traditional arches in Nawalgarh were studied and their geometry was finely scrutinized. In traditional havelis the arches were made of stone hence intricate and fine carving was possible. Due to budgetary and time constraints in this case the arches were to be of precast concrete. The Traditional Arch form was remodeled wherein the basic geometry of the arches was kept same as the traditional specimen but the detailed dimensions were modified. To create the look of Haveli, Sloping Chajjas were introduced along with kangooras at the parapets. Sloping walls of the existing Industrial shed were also remodeled to create the haveli look.

In Traditional Architecture the entrances to any complex are highlighted by Massive arched gateways. Here the entrance is marked by an arch but not the traditional style but by two intersected hyperbolas thus introducing scientific concept into a traditional element.
