Brief Overview

Local Low Floor City Bus Transport services need Bus Depots & Workshops at many places in the city where the buses are parked daily & repairs/maintenance works in them are carried out. It is a continuous operation where buses move out of the depot in early morning & start plying on their respective routes. These buses return to the Depot late at night after finishing their scheduled trips.

The Depot has Dormitories & Rest areas for drivers along with Medical & Mess facilities. The Buses are refuelled at the Depot itself & all repair maintenance activities which include Washing, Denting, Painting, Tyre repair , Minor & Major repairs are undertaken at the Workshop.

The Depot provides for Two Level Parking of total 119 Buses, out of which 79 are on surface & 28 are accommodated in the Basement for the first time in Rajasthan. A separate block for time office is also provided. All utility & services required for the smooth running of the workshop are provided. Effluent treatment plant & rain water harvesting structures are also provided in the project. The project is planned according to Global Environment Facilities V Norms.

Planning Challenges

The raw site was having deep ravines in half of the area due to natural rain water flow from surrounding area. Hence a basement was provided. Bus parking in basement was never attempted before in Rajasthan and the basement roof was also planned for idle bus parking. Buses need lot of space in movement so the column placing in the basement was also at a large distance. Additionally, the basement structure and roof were to support the weight of the buses parked over it.

The major challenge was the structural design of the basement. The basement is naturally lit in an innovative way. Detail designing was done for turning radius clearances for all parking and docking bays and for slopes of ramps .
